Yachats la de da Parade
July 4, 2008
If you've always wanted to be in a parade, but could never twirl a baton, couldn't tell a cadence from a credenza, or are allergic to horses, then sign up for the Yachats la de da Parade!!
We're Marching to a Different Drummer at the
13th Probably Annual Yachats la de da Parade
No uniformed (or uninformed) marching bands, no professionally designed floral floats, no international TV coverage...Just friends, neighbors, and visitors out strutting their stuff and having a good old time!
Are you wondering how you can be part of the 14th probably Annual la de da Parade?
We thought you'd never ask. It's as simple as having a yard sale.
- Gather together friends, neighbors, family, co-workers, or highway flaggers.
- Bribe them or intimidate them - your choice.
- Come up with a bizarre, outrageous, and/or funny theme for your group.
- Fill out and return the OFFICIAL APPLICATION FORM by July 1, 2008.
- Show up on July 4 at 11 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Yachats Commons @ W 4th St. and Hwy. 101. Sign in at the school bus shack -- all entries must sign in!
Officious Rules
The parade is open to all ages, except 39.
Any pet in the parade must be caged or on a leash. If you bring your elephants, llamas, or other large animals, you must clean up after them!!
No motorized vehicles. Roller-blades, bicycles, wagons, and other low-tech transportation or float carriers are preferred.
Items such as candy may not be thrown at or to parade watchers. Items such as candy or money may be handed out to parade watchers, especially to the Chamber Directors.
The City Council of Yachats must have special, pre-approved transportation.
This isn't an opportunity to make a political statement. Remember, this is the "la de da" Parade!
Please remember that this is a family parade, so keep your rating at "G" or "PG". Wacky, weird, or wild are good. Funny is better. Don't get too philosophical or highbrow. After all, this is a holiday, and parade watchers shouldn't have to think!
If you play one or more instruments really well, or if you play one instrument just so-so, you're welcome to do so.
Remember, you're not competing for prizes, trophies, money or prestige. We don't have the money or any honest judges. You just want to have fun, to laugh, and make others laugh.
