and one 6-mile mountain biking loop are open to the public year
round. When the Center is closed, trails maps are available outside
the Cape's Visitors Center door.

Forest Pass, and Golden Passports are honored here and may be
purchased in the Visitors Center. Without a pass, day-use permit
is $5.00 per auto and includes use of entire Scenic Area for one
day.

within this 2,700 acre Scenic Area that are accessible by auto
include Devil's Churn, Cape Overlook, and Cook's Chasm--look for
signed turnouts on Hwy 101, 2 to 4 miles south of Yachats. Place
your pass or day-use permit on vehicle dash.

Smelt Sands State Wayside and the 804 Trail: Attend a walk along the
trail to learn the trail's history and find native plants. Begins at Smelt Sand parking
lot and heads north. Find Smelt Sands State Wayside one mile north of downtown on Hwy 101.
- Yachats State Park:
Come hear programs about the tide pools and the whales seen from the park's Platform. Find
Yachats State Park at the west end of 2nd St in downtown Yachats.

Strawberry Hill:
Explore the amazing tide pools with the Roving Interpreter and hear about the Harbor Seals
that are resting close by on the rocks. Find Strawberry Hill 5 miles south of downtown Yachats on Hwy 101.

Wallace Stegner (1908-1993) was a superlative Western author and thinker
who won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for his fiction, and wide critical
and popular attention for his non-fiction. Historian Richard Etulain,
who studied and wrote with Stegner, will present an overview of Stegner's life and work in
conservation, history and intellectual thought. Free Admission. The Oregon Chautauqua series
is made possible by funding from the Oregon Council for the Humanities and the National Endowment

"Beat the Tide" 5Mile, 5K, and Fun Run/Walk open to all ages,

Heceta Lightstation 13th Annual
Victorian Christmas Open House
The Queen Ann style Keeper's House will be decorated with Victorian
flourishes inside and out. Enjoy warm drinks and treats and performances by local musicians.
Santa Claus will be there, and Oregon State Parks volunteers will offer
historic tours of the lighthouse. There will be a holiday raffle with great prizes from
local businesses. Coastal Journeys will offer shuttle service from the Heceta Head Lighthouse
State Scenic Area parking lot to the front door. Or bring warm, rainproof clothing and a
flashlight and enjoy a beautiful walk up from the parking lot/beach. The parking fee
