Yachats State Recreation Area

In the heart of Yachats, turn west on 2nd Street. The road makes a small loop, offering a serene view of the Yachats river as it meets the Pacific Ocean. Park and see the wild waves and gray whale migration. Rock and salmon fishing and tidepools bring people back to this park again and again. Plenty of resting benches and picnic tables.

Smelt Sands State Recreation Site

Just north of Yachats between The Adobe Resort and The Overleaf Resort and Spa you will find the easiest access to the 804 trail at Smelt Sands. Rocky beaches make for beautiful wave breaks and a fantastic view of Yachats’ pristine sunsets. Easy parking and bathrooms make this a great stop on your Yachats outings.

Tillicum Beach Access and campground

Tillicum Beach, just four miles north of Yachats, Is a great spot to get on a sandy beach. With ample parking, restrooms and sandy beaches for miles, this a great spot for sandcastle builds, kite flying and giving the pup a great spot to run about. There is also a campground for you outdoor enthusiasts!

Beachside State Park Access

A few miles south of Waldport, this small, exquisite destination campground is right alongside miles of broad, sandy beach perfect for kite flying and whale watching. Every campsite is mere seconds from the beach, which makes the park perfect for watching storms and sunsets.

Neptune State Park

Benches set on a cliff above the beach give you an excellent view of Cummins Creek, wildlife and the rock-pounding waves. From this location, you can watch for whales, see a variety of birds, sea lions and the occasional deer in the creek. The creek is also a great place to look for agates. At low tide you can walk to the south to see a natural cave and tidepools.

Bob Creek

Bob Creek, a small crescent beach south of Yachats, is a great mixture of the stunning rocky beach views and some sand to play on as well. Easy access and a short path right down to the water makes Bob Creek a fantastic stop for some beach adventure. Don’t forget to look for agates!

Strawberry Hill Wayside

Strawberry Hill Wayside is part of the Neptune Scenic Area south of Yachats. A trail will lead you right down to the rocky shoreline, for some amazing ocean views.

Rock Creek

Rock creek is a hidden gem south of Yachats. You can find Roosevelt beach access by looking for a couple of unmarked dusty turnouts after a small bridge if you are headed south, near the Rock Creek Campground. You will find a beautiful stretch of rocky bluffs for your viewing pleasure as well as the unpopulated Roosevelt beach.


Beach Safety

  • Never turn your back on the ocean.

  • Utilize a local tide table!

  • Leave the wildlife alone! Don't pry sea stars off rocks, don't poke the anemones, and let all wildlife be.

  • Don't play on driftwood logs or on eroding rocky areas.

  • Please always stay on the designated trails, don't climb over fences or barriers.

  • Check seasonal restrictions before planning a campfire on the beach, as they aren't always allowed.

  • While swimming isn't overly popular here, if you do want to brave the 52°F water, please be aware of rip currents.
