Within a 30-mile radius, you’ll discover a wealth of attractions, including visitor centers, tide pools, scenic hiking and driving routes, three historic lighthouses, and opportunities for crabbing, clamming, and fishing. Don’t miss nearby highlights such as the Oregon Coast Aquarium and local science centers, which provide a deeper dive into the region’s natural wonders.

History

In 1944, the land was acquired from multiple owners to ensure public access to the expansive ocean beach at Big Creek and to protect the native shore pine and coastal vegetation. Originally named Big Creek State Park, the park’s name was changed in 1957 by the Highway Commission at the public’s request to avoid confusion with other similarly named areas.

The campground is open seasonally March 15 – Oct. 31, weather permitting. Book reservations up to 6 months in advance.

SAFETY FIRST AT THE BEACH!

  • Never turn your back on the ocean.
  • Utilize a local tide table!
  • Leave the wildlife alone! Don't pry sea stars off rocks, don't poke the anemones, and let all wildlife be.
  • Don't play on driftwood logs or on eroding rocky areas.
  • Always stay on the designated trails, don't climb over fences or barriers.
  • Check seasonal restrictions before planning a campfire on the beach, as they aren't always allowed.
  • While swimming isn't overly popular here, if you do want to brave the 52°F water, please be aware of rip currents!
